A senior consultant at a multinational firm in Chennai has been arrested for allegedly sending bomb threat emails targeting the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and locations across 12 states, in what police describe as a case of unrequited love turning vengeful.

The accused, identified as Rene Joshilda, allegedly used fake email accounts, VPNs, and dark web tools to mask her identity and implicate a man she had once hoped to marry. Investigations revealed that after the man, Divij Prabhakar, married someone else in February, Joshilda launched an elaborate cyber plot to defame him.

Ahmedabad Cyber Crime authorities traced the threatening emails to Chennai after weeks of digital forensics and surveillance. The breakthrough came through tracking anonymised email trails and technology patterns that pointed to Joshilda’s devices. She was arrested from her home on Saturday.

Joshilda, who holds an engineering degree and has completed a course in Robotics, has been working with Deloitte in Chennai since 2022. Police allege she created multiple email accounts in Prabhakar’s name to send the threats, attempting to portray him as a national security risk.

Authorities are now probing the full extent of her activities and whether any further threats or impersonations were attempted. She remains in custody as investigations continue.
