The altercation reportedly began with a scuffle between the victim and a man identified as Sachin. Witnesses stated the confrontation quickly escalated, with a group of individuals attacking the man using sticks and kicking him repeatedly. Although some bystanders attempted to intervene, the violence continued. The police were alerted around 5:30 pm when the victim’s body was found near the temple premises.

Initial investigation treated the case as an unnatural death. However, a post-mortem conducted on April 28 at Wenlock District Hospital confirmed the man had died from multiple blunt force injuries, internal bleeding, and shock. Forensic findings indicated he was struck repeatedly on the back, limbs, and genitals with wooden objects.

According to police sources, the victim allegedly shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans during the match that provoked the crowd, leading to the assault. Karnataka Home Minister confirmed arrests have been made, and further investigation is underway.

So far, 19 individuals have been named in the FIR based on a complaint by a local resident. At least 10 people have been arrested, and authorities are analysing CCTV footage and mobile data to identify other suspects involved in the lynching.
