Bengaluru-based luggage company Mokobara has faced significant backlash after a social media influencer pointed out that similar bags were being sold on other e-commerce platforms at much lower prices. The influencer suggested that Mokobara’s bags could be white-labeled Chinese products, raising questions about the company’s pricing strategy.

In response to the criticism, Mokobara took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the allegations, stating: “While the world debates the chicken or the egg, we’re focused on what we do best - creating originals worth imitating.” The company also announced a new product launch — the Moko x Naruto Series — along with a 10% “originality” discount using the code “WHITELABEL.”
While the world debates the chicken or the egg, we’re focussed on what we do best - creating originals worth imitating. Dropping now: the Moko x Naruto Series - from one fan to another.

The reaction from Mokobara received mixed responses. Some X users praised the bold response, while others found it unsatisfactory and disappointing.
Founded in 2019 by former Urban Ladder executives Sangeet Agrawal and Navin Parwal, Mokobara offers a range of premium luggage products, including suitcases and laptop bags. The brand targets mid-premium to premium customers and competes with established names like American Tourister, VIP, and Samsonite. The company’s pricing strategy and sourcing practices are now under closer scrutiny following this controversy.
