Thai police have arrested a woman, known as "Ms Golf," for allegedly engaging in sexual relationships with at least nine Buddhist monks and extorting them by threatening to release explicit photos and videos. Authorities say she earned nearly 385 million baht ($11.9 million) over three years through blackmail and extortion. The case came to light after an abbot in Bangkok left the monkhood under suspicious circumstances, leading investigators to uncover her broader scheme.

A search of her home uncovered over 80,000 photos and videos used for blackmail. The money she obtained was reportedly spent partly on online gambling. Ms Golf is facing charges of extortion, money laundering, and receiving stolen goods. The scandal has prompted the Thai police to open a hotline for reporting misconduct by monks.
In response, the Sangha Supreme Council, which governs Thai Buddhism, announced a review of monastic regulations. The government is also advocating for stricter punishments, including increased jail time and fines for monks who violate their ethical codes. Thailand’s King Vajiralongkorn revoked royal titles for 81 monks, citing widespread misconduct.
The scandal is the latest in a series of controversies involving Buddhist monks in Thailand, raising serious questions about accountability and the influence of money within the religious hierarchy.
