Typically, the southwest monsoon enters Karnataka in the first week of June, but this year, weather models suggest its early arrival by 3-4 days, triggering precautionary measures. Red alerts have been declared for all three coastal districts, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi , effective immediately and expected to last for a full week. These areas may experience winds reaching up to 50 km/h, accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall. Authorities have strongly advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea until the weather stabilizes.
In Bengaluru, light to moderate rainfall is likely in certain pockets today as part of the pre-monsoon development. The city's residents can expect cloudy skies, occasional drizzle, and a dip in daytime temperatures. In addition, a yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru, warning of possible moderate rain, gusty winds, and localized waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Officials are monitoring the situation closely and have urged the public to remain alert and follow weather updates. Emergency services have also been placed on standby in vulnerable areas.
