The Malayalam film L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set to undergo 17 cuts following concerns over its content. Sources indicate that scenes depicting violence against women and certain riot sequences will be removed. Additionally, the antagonist's name, Baba Bajrangi, portrayed by Abhimanyu Singh, is likely to be changed, and specific dialogues may be muted. The revised version will be submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and is expected to be screened from next week.

Producer Gokulam Gopalan emphasized the importance of addressing audience sentiments, stating that if any scenes or dialogues in Empuraan have caused offense, he has instructed director Prithviraj to implement changes.
L2: Empuraan delves into events reminiscent of the Gujarat riots, particularly focusing on the backstory of the character Zayed Masood, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film also scrutinizes the alleged misuse of central agencies by the ruling party.
Despite the controversy, S Suresh, the BJP's state secretary, stated that Empuraan is not a political issue and that the Kerala BJP will not intervene. He affirmed that moviegoers have the freedom to watch, support, or critique the film as they choose.
L2: Empuraan, a sequel to the 2019 film Lucifer, was released in cinemas on March 27.
