A controversial remark by Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda has triggered a strong backlash from the opposition. Speaking at a civil defense volunteers' training event in Jabalpur, Devda claimed that the entire nation, including the army and every soldier bows at the feet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership.

His statement, made in the context of India’s military action against Pakistan, credited Modi entirely for the success of those operations. Devda asserted that it was under the Prime Minister’s direction that terrorism was being effectively crushed across the border.
The comment, however, hasn’t gone down well with the Congress party, which has accused the BJP leader of undermining the valour and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces. Critics argue that attributing such efforts solely to a political figure disregards the bravery and professionalism of the soldiers who risk their lives on the front lines.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another controversial remark by state minister Vijay Shah, who had recently made derogatory comments about Colonel Sophia Qureshi, labelling her with baseless and inflammatory accusations. With Devda’s statement now drawing fire, political tensions in the state have intensified further.
Congress leaders have demanded an unconditional apology from Devda, calling his comment shameful and disrespectful to the army. They have also urged the Chief Minister to remove him from office, arguing that such rhetoric politicizes national defense for personal or party credit.
