A fresh controversy has emerged around Bengaluru’s tunnel road project as Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan publicly criticized the final Detailed Project Report (DPR), alleging it sidelines public transport. Taking to social media platform X, Mohan expressed serious concerns over the exclusion of dedicated bus lanes in the final plan, an element previously proposed in earlier drafts.
Tunnel road final DPR quietly drops bus lanes, once again making it clear that the tunnel is only for those rich people who can afford ₹660 toll, not for the common Bengalurean. On one hand, they talk of free bus rides; on the other, they erase bus infrastructure itself.

The BJP MP argued that eliminating bus infrastructure reveals the project’s skewed priorities, benefitting only those who can afford high toll charges while ignoring the needs of ordinary citizens. He noted that the proposed toll of Rs 660 per day could cost commuters nearly Rs 20,000 monthly, making it inaccessible to most Bengalureans.
Mohan also pointed out the contradiction in government messaging, offering free bus rides for women on one hand while removing core public transport facilities on the other. He labelled the tunnel project as an elitist infrastructure model, funded by public money but excluding public benefit.
