A chargesheet has been filed against a woman and 3 of her accomplices, for using chicken blood to put false charges on a 64-year-old businessman, belonging to Kolhapur, Maharashtra.
From 2019 to 2021 the gang had extorted an amount equalling 3.25 crore. The 4 arrested include Monica Bhagwan, Anil Chaudhary, Lubna Wazir, a fashion designer and Manish Sodi, a jeweler.
Anil Chaudhary met the businessman in Goa in 2016 and developed a bond over 2 years. He later had him acquainted with Lubna Wazir introducing her as Sapna. In March 2019, the businessman stayed over in a hotel close to the international airport. Anil asked him if Sapna and Monica could join them for dinner. He approved and they convened in his room. Lubna made an excuse and left the room for a while. Monica simultaneously entered the hotel washroom. A while later, Lubna entered the room screaming with a camera recorder on claiming that Monica had been raped. Monica at the time had undressed and covered herself with a blood-stained bedsheet. Her clothes were also covered in blood. The businessman panicked and called Anil. The 3 then demanded 10 crore as the cost for not filing a police complaint. They eventually settled for 75 lakh, but constantly harassed him and even abducted him once, over the next 2 years. Unable to bear the torture, the victim filed a police complaint on November 2021.
The police set a trap and caught them red handed when they arrived to collect their next installment of extortion money. Monica escaped the police’s radar but was eventually nabbed in June, 2022. They had extorted several such individuals. The police recovered 49.4 lakh from the accused during investigations.
