  • India lost 4 wickts for 32 runs while chasing 245

The U-19 squad of Team India managed to book a spot in the final of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2024 being held in South Africa on the back of a thrilling 2-wicket victory against hosts South Africa in the Semi Final. India looked well out of the game having lost 4 wickets for 32 runs while chasing 245. Captain Uday Saharan and batsman Sachin Dhas later withstood the wind and put up a 171-run partnership in 185 balls to get India back into the game.

In the post match presentation, Uday talked about the influence of his father in playing a patient 123-ball 84 when India needed to preserve wickets. “My dad also used to play similarly; slowly and taking the game deep. The ball was seaming early on but once the ball got old, it started coming onto the bat better. We were well behind at one point. Kept saying one thing- we have to bat till the end. Was a matter of one partnership. When I walked into bat, ball was nipping a bit, and there was good bounce. Later it started coming onto the bat better. We don't let the morale get low in the dressing room at all - our environment and coaches are superb. Great feeling to reach the final. Got a taste of close games,” he said.
