Jumping on this creative wave, MyGov, the Government of India’s official Instagram handle, shared 15 animated-style images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, showcasing him in various significant moments.

The post, captioned, “Main character? No. He’s the whole storyline. Swipe through New India in Studio Ghibli strokes,” featured Modi in diverse settings, waving the Indian flag, delivering speeches, meeting former U.S. President Donald Trump, and bowing before the Ram Lalla idol in Ayodhya.

One of the visuals recreated the prime minister’s recent visit to Anant Ambani’s Vantara, an animal rescue, conservation, and rehabilitation center in Jamnagar in Gujarat. During the visit, he was seen petting lion cubs and interacting with various animals, including orangutans, elephants, and one-horned rhinos.

Another artwork depicted Modi with Deepjyoti, a calf he introduced as a ‘new family member’ in a video from his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi. The clip had shown him sitting with, playing with, and petting the young calf, a moment now reimagined in Ghibli-style visuals.

The post sparked mixed reactions on social media. While many users praised the creative portrayal, others expressed dissatisfaction or reacted with emojis in the comments section.

The trend has gained momentum worldwide. A day before MyGov’s post, the White House also joined the Ghibli meme trend, though with a contrasting theme. It shared an animated-style image of a woman arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for illegally entering the country. The picture depicted her in tears as she was apprehended outside her workplace, where she allegedly worked as a cook. The woman had previously been convicted of fentanyl distribution.

As the Ghibli-inspired art trend continues to evolve, it has become a tool for both creative storytelling and political messaging, captivating audiences across the globe.
