  • Mysore royals gift 100 kg silver Nandadeepa to Tirupati, renewing 300-year-old tradition
  • Rajmata Pramoda Devi Wodeyar and MP Yaduveer Wodeyar personally visit Tirumala for the offering
  • The silver lamp, worth ₹1 crore, replaces the original gifted by Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar centuries ago

In a heartwarming gesture that revives centuries-old ties, the royal family of Mysore has gifted a 100 kg silver Nandadeepa (sacred lamp) to Lord Venkateshwara at the Tirumala Tirupati temple. This offering rekindles a historic connection that dates back nearly 300 years, when Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the Maharaja of Mysore, first presented a Nandadeepa to Tirupati Thimmappa as a mark of devotion.

The original Nandadeepa, which had remained in service at the sanctum for centuries, was recently found to be in a state of disrepair. On being informed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), Rajmata Pramoda Devi Wodeyar, the Queen Mother of Mysore, immediately stepped in to uphold the royal tradition. She commissioned the creation of a new, ornately crafted silver lamp, weighing exactly 100 kg — a process that took over two months. The current value of the silver offering is estimated at Rs 1 crore.

Accompanied by Mysore MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar, Rajmata Pramoda Devi visited Tirupati to personally present the Nandadeepa, symbolizing the royal family's enduring spiritual ties and their reverence for the deity.

This royal gesture has been widely appreciated by devotees, further highlighting the Mysore dynasty’s longstanding devotion to Lord Venkateshwara and their commitment to preserving tradition.
