In a significant development, veteran actor Akkineni Nagarjuna has filed a defamation case against Telangana Congress Minister Konda Surekha. The legal action comes in response to Surekha’s controversial remarks about the divorce of Nagarjuna’s son, actor Naga Chaitanya, and actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu.

Nagarjuna lodged the defamation suit in the Nampally court on Thursday, citing BNS section 356. His move follows his strong objection to the minister’s statement, which he believes was intended to tarnish the reputation of the Akkineni family. Sharing his stance, Naga Chaitanya posted a copy of the legal complaint on social media.

The controversy began when Surekha linked the high-profile divorce to Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao, sparking outrage across the Telugu film industry. Several prominent figures from Tollywood condemned Surekha for dragging a personal matter into a political feud.

Responding to the backlash, Surekha issued an apology, admitting her comments were made in a moment of emotional outburst. She expressed regret for causing distress and pain to the couple and their families.

Despite the apology, Nagarjuna proceeded with the legal case, with the Telugu film industry united in support. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee urged for an end to the dispute, emphasizing Surekha's sincere apology.
