In a historic move, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has unveiled a new scheme to provide proactive legal aid to the families of Indian soldiers and paramilitary personnel. Named the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayata Yojana 2025, the initiative aims to relieve serving personnel from domestic legal challenges while they are deployed in remote and difficult terrains.

The scheme was officially launched today in Srinagar at a special conference led by Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman of NALSA and the incoming Chief Justice of India. The event also saw the participation of Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The programme is seen as a significant step towards supporting armed forces personnel who often struggle to manage family legal issues such as property disputes or domestic cases due to their deployment in far-flung regions. The idea reportedly emerged in the wake of Operation Sindoor, after which Justice Kant began advocating for stronger legal support for military families.
Under the new scheme, NALSA will ensure legal representation in courts across the country for soldiers and paramilitary forces like the BSF, CRPF, and ITBP. The move reflects a commitment from the judiciary to safeguard the legal rights of those who defend the nation.
