App enhances the safety and convenience of women commuters
The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) officially launched the “Namma BMTC” mobile application on September 25, as part of their Silver Jubilee celebrations.
Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the application, highlighting that BMTC secured funding from the Government of India through the Nirbhaya Scheme to implement various safety features.
This innovative mobile app includes features designed to enhance the safety and convenience of women commuters. It allows them to request remote assistance during emergencies and track their movements when seeking support.
Furthermore, the app incorporates on-board cameras for monitoring activities inside buses and panic buttons for women passengers to use in case of emergencies. It also establishes a centralized helpline to provide assistance during distressing situations.
To improve bus tracking, vehicle tracking devices have been installed in 5,000 buses. Additionally, 5,000 panic buttons, 10,000 CCTV cameras, and a comprehensive surveillance system have been implemented. Moreover, 500 Passenger Information System Boards have been set up at bus stands and stations to display estimated arrival and departure times.
The “Namma BMTC” mobile app is now accessible on both Android and iOS platforms, offering commuters a more secure and convenient travel experience.
