Bengaluru Metro has taken a significant step towards easing congestion on its Purple and Green Lines with the arrival of its first six-coach DTG (distance to go) train at the Peenya depot. This train, manufactured in China by CRRC Corporation, is the prototype for a fleet of 216 coaches being introduced as part of the Metro's Phase 2 expansion.

The new six-coach trains will enhance capacity and improve commuter experiences, particularly for those traveling between Whitefield and Challaghatta on the Purple Line, as well as on the Green Line. Before passenger operations begin, the train will undergo critical safety and performance tests.

To support the expansion, local production of additional trains is underway. Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems is manufacturing a portion of these trains domestically, with the first units expected to arrive later this year. The complete fleet for the Purple and Green Lines is slated for delivery by 2027.

The Metro is also gearing up to launch operations on the Yellow Line, which will connect the Electronic City corridor. Two of the new trains will initially serve this route, with the first driverless train for the Yellow Line expected soon.

The introduction of these advanced trains is part of Bengaluru Metro's broader efforts to improve public transit infrastructure and accommodate the city’s growing commuter demand.
