  • Mobile QR tickets come with a 5% discount on regular token fare

Bengaluru's Namma Metro is introducing a QR code group ticketing feature, aimed at enhancing the travel experience for families and groups. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is implementing this system to streamline the ticketing process, reducing the need for long queues at metro station counters. This new service is set to commence on November 16.

Under this initiative, groups of up to six travelers can conveniently purchase their tickets in a single transaction. The BMRCL announced, "Responding to demand, BMRCL is introducing mobile QR Tickets to facilitate group travel for a maximum of six passengers, starting from November 16, 2023. Mobile QR tickets come with a 5% discount on the regular token fare."

Upon purchasing a group ticket, the lead passenger will receive a QR code ticket, which can be scanned at the metro gate for the specified number of individuals included in the ticket purchase.

The BMRCL emphasized, "The passenger using this service will receive a single QR ticket encrypted with the total number of passengers. To gain entry and exit, this QR ticket must be scanned once for each member of the group.

Passengers are encouraged to pre-book mobile QR Tickets conveniently from their homes or offices to avoid queues at the ticket counters."

Notably, this move follows the BMRCL's introduction of online ticketing in Bengaluru last November, along with the innovative WhatsApp chatbot-based QR ticketing service for Namma Metro.

The BMRCL proudly stated that it is the first transit service globally to enable end-to-end QR ticketing through WhatsApp.
