With full operations commencing on the Purple Line, the ridership of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro exceeded 700,000 on October 11.

Prior to the connection of the missing segments, the average ridership was 650,000. Commuters are urging for an augmentation in train frequency, especially during peak hours. Officials from BMRCL have asserted that they are currently operating an adequate number of trains and have noticed variations in the number of passengers at different stations.

The recent launch of operations along the entire Purple Line from Challaghatta to Kadugodi (Whitefield) has swiftly escalated the patronage of Namma Metro. The number of riders surpassed 700,000 on October 11, just two days after the commencement of operations along this route.

BMRCL authorities in Bangaluru have expressed their optimism regarding the burgeoning patronage, anticipating a further surge in the number of users once the operations stabilize.

Chief Public Relations Officer of BMRCL, BL Yeshwanth Chavan, highlighted that the last time the Metro recorded over 700,000 riders was on September 27, a day characterized by significant traffic congestion along Outer Ring Road (ORR) and other areas. Approximately 710,000 people used the Metro on that day.

On October 9, operations were initiated on the Kengeri-Challaghatta and Byappanahalli-KR Pura stretches of the Purple Line. To facilitate hassle-free commuting, additional baggage-screening machines have been installed at Benniganahalli and Pattandur Agrahara, along with the deployment of additional security personnel.
