On November 15th, a video showcasing veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar slapping a fan who had approached the actor for a selfie near the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi. Nana Patekar is shooting for a film titled “Journey”.  Many on social media were annoyed at Nana Patekar due to this incident. At the end of the 26/11 Mumbai Attack movie, this gentleman was talking as if he is the biggest patriot, but this is the reality of these artists. Such behaviour with common people is unfortunate, our real heroes are at the border, not on the film screen (sic).” a user had commented. 


Nana Patekar’s team has now released a video in which Nana Patekar offers context with regard to what had transpired in order to clear misconceptions among his fans and admirers. In this video he claims that the sequence which was being shot involved a man heckling him on the streets over his hat to which he responds aggressively. Due to the noise in the location, he could not hear the director and assumed that the camera was rolling. He mistook the boy for the actor and hence slapped him. He said that by the time he realised his mistake the boy had fled from the location and he was hence unable to apologise to him. He reassured fans that he has never objected to selfies.
