The Union Government’s new cab-hailing platform, Bharat Taxi, will debut in Delhi on January 1, promising fixed pricing, higher driver earnings, and a transparent, safety-focused alternative to private ride-hailing apps.
The Union Government is preparing to introduce Bharat Taxi, a new government-supported cab-hailing platform, in Delhi from January 1. The initiative is aimed at reshaping daily urban travel by offering a more predictable, fair, and transparent option compared to existing private cab aggregators.
For years, commuters in Delhi have complained about frequent surge pricing on popular ride-hailing apps. Fares often increase sharply during peak hours, late nights, holidays, or bad weather, leaving passengers with limited options. Bharat Taxi seeks to address this concern by moving away from dynamic pricing.
One of the key passenger-focused features of the Bharat Taxi app is the introduction of fixed fares. Officials say ride prices will remain the same regardless of traffic rush, festive demand, or weather conditions. This fixed pricing system is expected to reduce confusion and disputes while helping regular commuters plan their travel expenses more effectively.

In addition, the app will clearly display fare details before a booking is confirmed, ensuring passengers know exactly what they will pay. This emphasis on transparency is being positioned as a major difference from existing platforms.
Bharat Taxi also brings a significant change in how drivers are paid. Under its driver-friendly revenue model, drivers will receive over 80% of the total fare, which is substantially higher than the commissions typically offered by private cab aggregators. Any surplus income generated through the cooperative-style system will be shared among members instead of being retained by a private company.
Officials believe this approach will improve driver earnings, reduce financial pressure caused by high commissions, and help lower stress linked to long working hours. Better income stability is also expected to increase job satisfaction among drivers.

Passenger safety and ease of use are also central to the platform’s design. The app will offer real-time vehicle tracking, a simple booking process, and support for multiple Indian languages to ensure wider accessibility. Only verified drivers will be onboarded, and 24/7 customer support will be available. Safety features for passengers are expected to be built into the app to boost confidence among users.
Ahead of the launch, response from the driver community has been strong. Around 56,000 drivers in Delhi have already registered on the platform, indicating significant interest. Bharat Taxi will also provide multiple transport choices, including auto-rickshaws, cars, and bikes, allowing passengers to choose based on their travel needs.
