On India’s 77th Republic Day, Xi Jinping sent greetings, calling India a partner as both nations rebuild ties after past border clashes
As India marked its 77th Republic Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping extended warm greetings to President Droupadi Murmu, underscoring the importance of strengthening ties between the two Asian giants. The message, carried by China’s official Xinhua News Agency, highlighted the evolving relationship between the nations and its significance for global peace and prosperity.
Over the past year, India and China have taken steps to rebuild trust and co-operation following years of strained ties. The relationship suffered a major setback in 2020 after a violent clash along the Himalayan border that claimed the lives of 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers. In the aftermath, both countries sharply increased military presence in the region, heightening tensions.

Recent months, however, have seen a gradual thaw. A series of high-level bilateral visits and dialogues have paved the way for renewed engagement. Xi emphasized that China views India as a neighbour, friend, and partner, and described the relationship as ‘dragons and elephants dancing together,’ symbolizing harmony between two powerful nations.
Looking ahead, both sides are expected to expand exchanges, deepen cooperation, and address mutual concerns. The renewed focus is on building a stable, healthy partnership that not only benefits the two countries but also contributes to wider regional and global stability.
