Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone will collaborate with the Ministry of Health to raise awareness and tackle stigma around mental health across the country.
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has been appointed as India’s first Mental Health Ambassador by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. She met with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda in Delhi to discuss strategies for promoting mental health awareness and support across the country.
Deepika, founder of the Live Love Laugh Foundation, has spent the last decade advocating for mental well-being and reducing the stigma around mental health issues. Her recent visits, including to Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh, engaged with local communities on mental health awareness, highlighting the importance of public dialogue on the topic.

Speaking on the appointment, Health Minister J.P. Nadda said the partnership with Deepika Padukone will help India create awareness and reduce the stigma around mental health. He emphasized that open discussion and public campaigns can reduce suffering and recognize mental health as an integral part of overall public health.
Deepika Padukone expressed her gratitude, stating, “It is a great honor to serve as the first Mental Health Ambassador. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has made remarkable progress in prioritizing mental health. I look forward to working closely with the Ministry to strengthen the mental health framework in our country.”
