Google will invest $15B in India to boost AI, building undersea cables to the US, Singapore, South Africa & Australia, plus expanding data centers and skills
Google has unveiled a sweeping $15 billion investment plan to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) development in India, with a major focus on strengthening digital infrastructure and connectivity.
At an event in New Delhi, CEO Sundar Pichai announced the India-America Connect initiative, which will establish new undersea cable routes linking India with the United States and other global destinations. The centrepiece of this project is a new subsea landing station in Visakhapatnam, on India’s east coast, which will serve as a hub for three planned subsea routes connecting India to Singapore, South Africa, and Australia. Additionally, four terrestrial fibreiGOT Karmayogi platform, routes will be built to enhance connectivity between India, the US, and regions across the Southern Hemisphere.
Google said the subsea expansion aims to boost network capacity, reduce outage risks, and diversify traffic flows between regions. The infrastructure will support India’s growing demand for cloud computing and AI services, while also strengthening links with Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
Beyond connectivity, Google’s investment will expand data center capacity and cloud infrastructure in India to support large-scale AI model training, deployment, and storage. The company emphasized that this is a long-term foundational investment, designed to enable widespread AI adoption across both public and private sectors.

The collaboration will digitize heritage training materials and make them accessible in more than 18 Indian languages.
Pichai highlighted that the initiative is not only about building cables and data centers but also about investing in people. “For the opportunities this initiative creates, we must also invest in skills,” he said, underscoring Google’s dual commitment to infrastructure and workforce development.
With this $15 billion push, Google is positioning India as a critical hub in the global AI ecosystem, combining cutting-edge connectivity with large-scale skill-building programs.
