As flames engulfed a Hyderabad-Bengaluru sleeper bus near Kurnool, one man’s courage stood out, Naveen’s quick action helped save six passengers from certain death.
A late-night Hyderabad-Bengaluru sleeper bus journey turned into a nightmare near Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, when the vehicle caught fire after hitting a two-wheeler. The blaze tore through the bus within minutes, leaving 22 passengers dead and several others grievously injured.
But amid the horror, one man became a beacon of hope. Naveen, who was travelling by car from Hindupur to Nandyal, noticed the burning bus and stopped without hesitation. Smashing windows with whatever tools he could find, he pulled out trapped passengers and rushed six of them to the nearest hospital in his car. His quick thinking and fearless rescue effort made him a public hero that night.

The fire broke out after the bus collided with a bike, spreading rapidly and turning the luxury vehicle into an inferno. Of the 44 passengers on board, 12 managed to jump out to safety while 10 others suffered severe burn injuries. Rescue teams later found 22 charred bodies.
Among the dead were Sandhya Rani and her daughter Chandana from Medak district, whose tragic story has shaken hearts. The mother-daughter duo were returning to Bengaluru after Deepavali celebrations when their journey ended in flames.

Meanwhile, the survival story of 23-year-old B.Tech student Jayasurya stands as a miracle. He had missed the bus initially but chased it on his bike and boarded it at Moosapet, only to escape moments before the inferno through the emergency exit.
Authorities have identified 19 victims so far, with DNA testing underway for others. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though officials suspect the spark may have originated near the fuel tank following the crash.
