India has taken a significant step in digitizing its immigration processes, eliminating the need for physical disembarkation cards for foreign travelers starting October 1. Visitors arriving in the country will now submit an e-arrival card online before their journey, streamlining the immigration procedure and reducing delays at airports. The new digital system requires basic details such as passport number, nationality, purpose of visit, local address, and contact information, without any need for document uploads. Indian citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) holders are exempt from submitting the form.

Enhance airport efficiency through technology
This digital transition is part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance airport efficiency through technology. The move complements the expansion of the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP), introduced earlier this year. Initially launched at five airports, the FTI-TTP is now operational at 13 airports, including major hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bengaluru, and offers quicker immigration clearance for Indian citizens and OCI cardholders. By bypassing traditional queues, travelers can complete their immigration process in just 30 seconds.
The government’s efforts to streamline immigration are proving successful, with around 3 lakh travelers registered on the FTI-TTP portal, 2.65 lakh of whom have already used it for smoother travel experiences. With more airports set to join the initiative, India’s efforts to modernize immigration look poised for continued success.
