Sresan Pharma owner arrested after 20 children die from toxic cough syrup; special police team seizes key evidence in dramatic midnight operation.
Chennai police, in a high-stakes midnight operation at 1:30 AM on Thursday, arrested Ranganathan Govindan, owner of Sresan Pharma, and his wife. The couple had been absconding after their cough syrup, Coldrif Syrup, allegedly caused the deaths of at least 20 children in Madhya Pradesh.

The arrests came following precise intelligence. A special Madhya Pradesh police team, led by a sub-divisional officer and including female officers, cyber experts, and pharmaceutical inspectors, had reached Chennai a day after an FIR was filed on October 5.
After arresting Ranganathan, police transported him to Sresan Pharma’s Kancheepuram factory, where crucial documents were seized. Authorities are now seeking transit remand from Chennai court to bring him to Chindwara, Madhya Pradesh, for questioning.

Sresan Pharmaceuticals, registered as a private limited company in 1990, has reportedly been removed from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ registry, investigations reveal. The company, which claimed to trade in syrups, tonics, and herbal formulations, now faces allegations of gross negligence and violations of drug manufacturing standards.
