Starting November 15, 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways introduces a new toll payment system nationwide, cash users will pay more, while digital payments bring savings and smoother travel.
A major change is coming for motorists across India. Starting November 15, 2025, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has rolled out a new digital-first toll payment system designed to make highway travel faster, cleaner, and more transparent.
Under the new rule, vehicles passing through toll plazas without a FASTag and choosing to pay by cash will now have to pay double the toll fee. However, drivers opting for digital payments such as UPI, debit cards, or mobile wallets will be charged only 1.25 times the regular toll.

For example, if the normal toll fee is ₹100,
• Vehicles with an active FASTag will pay ₹100.
• Drivers paying in cash will now pay ₹200.
• Those paying digitally without FASTag will pay ₹125.
This system aims to make toll collection more efficient and reduce manual handling of cash, which often causes congestion and delays at plazas.

According to MoRTH, this change has been introduced to encourage digital payments and reduce corruption in toll operations. Officials say digital transactions will bring more transparency, lower the waiting time at booths, and save both fuel and travel time.
The new rule also comes as a relief to drivers whose FASTag may be inactive or expired due to technical issues. Earlier, such motorists were forced to pay double the toll, but with this reform, they can now pay slightly higher, at 1.25 times the toll, by using digital payment methods.
