A 23‑year‑old Surat teacher allegedly kidnapped her 13‑year‑old student, claims 20 weeks pregnant; police probe under IPC and POCSO with DNA test pending

A disturbing case has emerged in Gujarat involving a 23‑year‑old teacher accused of kidnapping her 13‑year‑old student and later claiming to be pregnant. The incident has raised serious concerns about child safety and enforcement of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The teacher, identified as Mansi, allegedly developed a relationship with the boy, who was studying in class 5 at her school. According to police, she persuaded him to leave home and absconded with him. The boy’s father lodged a missing complaint, prompting authorities to launch an investigation. After five days, the pair was traced and arrested near the Rajasthan border.

Following her arrest, Mansi revealed that she was 20 weeks pregnant and claimed the minor was the father of her child. Investigators have ordered a DNA test to confirm paternity, while doctors have verified that the boy is physically capable of fathering a child. Samples have been sent for forensic analysis, and the report is awaited.

Meanwhile, the teacher has approached the court seeking permission to terminate the pregnancy. Medical experts have stated that continuing the pregnancy could cause severe psychological distress, and doctors confirmed she has completed 20 weeks and three days of gestation. The court’s decision on the abortion request is expected to play a crucial role in the case.

During questioning, Mansi admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the minor. Authorities have registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Indian Penal Code for kidnapping, along with charges under the POCSO Act. The investigation is ongoing, and the DNA report will be central to determining further legal action.

This case has sparked outrage among child rights activists, who emphasize the need for strict enforcement of laws to protect minors from exploitation. The incident highlights the importance of vigilance in schools and communities to prevent such violations and ensure accountability.
