Ten soldiers died and ten were injured as an Army vehicle fell into a gorge in Doda, J&K; leaders mourn, injured airlifted for treatment
A tragic accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district claimed the lives of ten Army personnel and left ten others injured after their vehicle skidded off the road and plunged into a gorge. The incident occurred on Thursday at Khanni Top along the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road, a stretch known for its treacherous terrain and difficult weather conditions.
Officials confirmed that the vehicle involved was a bulletproof Casspir, carrying troops for an operational assignment. While navigating the mountainous route, the vehicle lost control and fell into the gorge, resulting in multiple casualties. The injured soldiers were quickly evacuated and airlifted to hospitals for advanced medical treatment.
The Army’s White Knight Corps acknowledged the accident, noting that the terrain and weather posed significant challenges during the movement. Senior officers have been directed to ensure the best possible care for the injured personnel.
The tragedy has drawn widespread condolences from national leaders. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss, assuring full support to the families of the deceased and emphasizing that the nation stands united in mourning. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the incident as deeply anguishing, paying tribute to the soldiers’ service and sacrifice while wishing for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Union Home Minister also conveyed sorrow, highlighting that the jawans are receiving the highest level of medical care. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed similar sentiments, stating that the nation stands firmly with the Armed Forces and their families during this difficult time.
The accident underscores the risks faced by soldiers operating in high-altitude regions where road conditions are often precarious. Despite the use of specialized vehicles, the combination of narrow roads, sharp bends, and unpredictable weather continues to pose dangers for military convoys.
