Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has firmly defended his financial contributions to the Congress-owned National Herald publication, stating that the donations were made in support of the party’s own media platform. Speaking in Kolhar town of Vijayapura district, Shivakumar clarified that the funds were given transparently and for a cause aligned with party principles.

"Our party has a historic publication — National Herald. Naturally, we contributed to support it. There's nothing illegal or suspicious about it," said Shivakumar, amid ongoing investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED has named Shivakumar and his brother D.K. Suresh in a chargesheet for donating ₹5.8 crore to Young India Limited, which controls National Herald.
In a fiery counterattack, Shivakumar also lashed out at JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy, who had earlier commented on Congress leaders in connection with the Renuka gold case. Shivakumar dismissed the remarks, saying, “Kumaraswamy needs mental help. He’s mentally unstable. He says anything without evidence.”
Calling Kumaraswamy “a man known for falsehoods,” Shivakumar urged the public not to take his accusations seriously. The Congress leader’s sharp rebuttal highlights the deepening political rivalry in Karnataka, even as corruption allegations continue to swirl.
With the National Herald case under the scanner, Shivakumar’s defense marks a critical moment in the ongoing political and legal tug-of-war.
