Banking operations across India are set to face disruptions as the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a two-day nationwide strike on March 24 and 25. The strike comes in response to unfulfilled demands after failed negotiations with the Indian Banks' Association (IBA).

With the strike coinciding with a series of holidays, customers will experience a four-day banking shutdown. March 22 marks the fourth Saturday and a statewide bandh in Karnataka. March 23 is a Sunday, and the strike will then take place on March 24-25, affecting public, private, and regional rural banks.

The UFBU’s demands include filling vacant positions in banks, regularizing temporary employees, implementing a five-day workweek, and ensuring better security for bank staff. Additionally, the union seeks amendments to the Gratuity Act, raising the gratuity limit to ₹25 lakh, along with tax exemptions. Other key demands include stopping outsourcing in banking jobs and withdrawing certain recent directives.

With a prolonged disruption in banking services, the strike is expected to impact cash transactions, cheque clearances, and other essential financial services. Customers are urged to make necessary arrangements ahead of time.

Authorities have yet to announce any further negotiations, making it uncertain whether the strike will be called off.
