Widespread protests broke out across Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country in response to the brutal killing of tourists in Pahalgam. Political parties, religious leaders and civil society groups united in condemning the violence, with many highlighting that such acts go against the core teachings of Islam. They urged people to stand together against terrorism and those who support it.

Anger against Pakistan flared during demonstrations, with protestors burning its flags and effigies in public displays of outrage. Candlelight marches became a common form of tribute, as people from various backgrounds came together to express their grief and solidarity with the vicims.
In Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a vigil at Jantar Mantar, while the Congress youth wing organized a similar event at their Raisina Road office. Several traders’ associations joined the protests, wearing black ribbons and calling for a Delhi Bandh on April 25 to express their dissent.
At Jawaharlal Nehru University, student unions from across the political spectrum, including ABVP, NSUI, and AISF came together in a rare show of unity to condemn the killings. The Muslim Students Federation (MSF) also participated in a vigil at Jantar Mantar.
In a powerful response, Kashmir observed a complete shutdown, the first such occurrence in 35 years, demonstrating widespread condemnation from all political sides.
