The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned the online abuse faced by Himanshi Narwal, the widow of Navy officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The couple had been on their honeymoon in Kashmir when the tragedy struck, just days after their wedding.

Ms Narwal made a heartfelt appeal to the public, urging people not to direct hatred towards Muslims or Kashmiris in the aftermath of the attack. Her call for peace, however, triggered a storm of online trolling. Some targeted her with personal attacks while others even questioned her right to her husband’s pension.

Reacting to the backlash, the NCW stated that targeting a grieving woman for expressing her views is both condemnable and unacceptable. They emphasized that while people are entitles to agree or disagree, it must be done with dignity and within constitutional limits. The panel reaffirmed its commitments to protecting women’s dignity in the public sphere.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also spoke out, stating that trolling someone for promoting peace and expressing personal views in unjustified. Despite the hate, many individuals have come forward in support of Himanshi Narwal, demanding accountability for the trolls and justice for the fallen officer.
