The ongoing debate over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) in India has reached a fever pitch, especially in Tamil Nadu. The state has voiced strong opposition to the exam, citing several concerns that have sparked widespread calls for its ban.

Critics argue that NEET is plagued by scams and dominated by coaching center mafias, creating an uneven playing field for students. There is a growing sentiment that the exam disadvantages underprivileged students, who lack the resources to compete with their more affluent peers. The controversy has also taken a political turn, with accusations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supports NEET for political gain.

The debate extends beyond the logistics of the exam itself, touching on broader issues of educational equity and the role of government in providing fair opportunities for all students. Opponents of NEET argue that it undermines the state's educational framework and imposes undue stress on students.

Rahul Gandhi recently wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, requesting a parliamentary debate regarding the ongoing NEET examination issues. He emphasized, “At this moment, our only concern is the 24 lakh NEET aspirants across India. Lakhs of families have made tremendous personal sacrifices to provide for their children.”
