Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has unveiled a new Aadhar mobile app designed to simplify and secure identity verification for Indian citizens. Developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the app integrates Face ID authentication and artificial intelligence, allowing users to verify their identity through their smartphones - eliminating the need for physical Aadhar cards or photocopies.

The app introduces QR code-based instant verification and real-time face recognition, making Aadhar verification as seamless as making a UPI payment. Just like scanning a QR code for digital transactions, users can scan a verification QR code and authenticate their identity instantly via facial recognition. This innovation is expected to be especially useful in places like hotels, airports and shops where identity proof is frequently required.
Importantly, the app puts user privacy at the forefront. Identity information is only shared with the user’s consent and only essential data is transmitted. Since the data is shared directly from the user’s device, there’s no risk of misuse through photocopies. Currently in its Beta phase, the app will soon roll out nationwide, marking a significant leap towards secure, paperless and user-controlled digital identity verification in India.
