In a major policy change, the Railway Department has restricted platform access to only those with confirmed tickets. This rule, aimed at easing congestion and enhancing safety, is being implemented at 60 major railway stations across India, including Bengaluru.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision, stating that passengers with waiting-list tickets and visitors with platform tickets will no longer be allowed on platforms. Instead, they will have to remain in designated waiting areas, which will be set up at these stations.
The move comes in response to rising concerns over overcrowding at railway stations. Recently, a stampede at New Delhi Railway Station highlighted the risks posed by excessive crowding. To prevent such incidents, the rule was initially introduced on a trial basis at select stations, including Prayagraj. Following its success, the decision was made to extend it to other high-traffic stations.
Authorities believe that this regulation will streamline passenger movement, improve security, and enhance travel efficiency. It also aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize railway infrastructure and improve commuter safety.
Passengers are advised to check their ticket status before heading to the railway station to avoid inconvenience. The new rule is expected to significantly reduce unnecessary congestion, ensuring a smoother and safer travel experience.
