New weekly train to Tirupati brings cheer to devotees from Karnataka

In a welcome move for pilgrims, the Central Government has announced a new weekly train service between Chikkamagaluru and Tirupati, easing travel for devotees from Karnataka heading to the revered temple town.

Union Minister of State for Jal Shakti and Railways, V. Somanna, revealed the introduction of the new route and urged residents of Malenadu, Tumkur, Bengaluru, and Kolar to make use of the service. The train is expected to significantly boost religious tourism and connectivity between southern Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The train schedule is as follows:

  • Train No. 17423 (Tirupati to Chikkamagaluru) will depart every Thursday at 9:00 PM and arrive in Chikkamagaluru at 10:30 AM on Friday.
  • Train No. 17424 (Chikkamagaluru to Tirupati) will leave every Friday at 5:30 PM and reach Tirupati at 7:40 AM on Saturday.

 The train will halt at major stations including Chittoor, Katpadi, Kuppam, Bangarpet, Whitefield, KR Puram, SMVT Bengaluru, Chikka Banavar, Tumkur, Tipattur, Arasikere, Devanur, Birur, Kadur, Bisalehalli, and Sakarayapatna.

This development is part of the Railways’ ongoing efforts to improve regional connectivity and support spiritual tourism across India.
