NewsFirst’s senior cameraman Aviraj has been honoured with the prestigious Kempegowda Award in recognition of his extraordinary bravery and commitment to public service. The incident occurred during heavy rainfall in Bengaluru, when floodwaters submerged the K.R. Circle underpass. While on assignment to cover the downpour and its impact, Aviraj noticed several people trapped and struggling to stay afloat in the rising water.

Without a second thought, Aviraj sprang into action. Risking his own life, he entered the water and helped rescue those in danger. His courageous intervention proved critical, saving multiple lives before emergency responders arrived. Eyewitnesses commended Aviraj for his presence of mind and selflessness, noting that he continued assisting even as the situation grew perilous.

The Kempegowda Award, given by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), honours individuals who make outstanding contributions to the city and its citizens.
