This budget merely had an aim of preserving power: Kharge
We do not get an opportunity to name every state: Nirmala
₹75,000 crore has been granted for Maharashtra: Nirmala
Leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) have alleged that regions wherein the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) did not perform well in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections have been deliberately neglected in the budget which was presented. Opposition leaders protested outside the parliament premises over this alleged discrimination. “In the budget that was presented yesterday, no state has received anything beneficial. 2 Thalis were filled with Pakoras and Jalebis and the rest of them were khali (empty). Neither Tamil Nadu, nor Kerala, nor Karnataka nor Maharashtra nor Punjab nor Delhi nor Odisha received anything. This budget merely had an aim of preserving power. I condemn this. Nirmala has been elected from Karnataka. We thought we would receive the maximum funds. Wherever the opposition has won, those areas have received nothing. If there is no balance, how can development take place,” Leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha from the Indian National Congress (INC) Mallikarjun Kharge said in the Rajya Sabha.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman refuted the allegations levied upon the NDA government by the opposition. Nirmala also hit back at leaders who stated that even the names of the state they represent was not mentioned during the budget speech. “What happens in a speech, we do not get an opportunity to name every state. Congress has been in power, they should know. Maharashtra for instance, was not named. But the Cabinet has passed an important decision, did Maharashtra get ignored … ₹75,000 crore has been granted. If the speech does not take names… does it mean schemes and external aided assistance don’t go to these states, they go as per routine, the department wise allocation, item wise mentions it. This is a deliberate attempt of opposition led by Congress to create an impression that nothing has been given,” Nirmala remarked.
