In a decisive move to combat rising air pollution, the Delhi government has announced a ban on fuel supply to petrol and diesel vehicles older than 15 years. The new rule, issued by the Environment Department, will come into effect from March 31.

This measure aims to prevent outdated, high-emission vehicles from being used on Delhi’s roads. Fuel stations across the city will be instructed to deny service to such vehicles, ensuring stricter enforcement of pollution control norms.
Delhi has long struggled with severe air pollution, often likened to smoking 25-30 cigarettes a day. Previous attempts, including the odd-even vehicle rule introduced by the AAP government, yielded limited success. Now, the BJP-led administration is taking more stringent action to tackle the crisis.
Authorities emphasize that the new rule is a necessary step in reducing vehicular emissions, a major contributor to Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. The government urges vehicle owners to comply with the regulation and explore alternatives like electric or CNG-powered vehicles.
With air pollution worsening year after year, the government hopes this ban will significantly curb toxic emissions and improve public health in the capital. The success of this initiative will depend on strict implementation and cooperation from citizens.
