Tamil superstar Suriya has begun promoting his upcoming big-budget folklore fusion drama, Kanguva. In a recent interview with a Mumbai-based media outlet, Suriya, joined by director Siva, shared insights about the film and his career.

Suriya admitted that he doesn't possess the imposing physicality of stars like Prabhas or Rana Daggubati to carry off warrior roles in period dramas like Baahubali. However, he explained that he approached Kanguva with a leap of faith, similar to his past roles in Ghajini and the negative role of Rolex in Vikram. He revealed that he initially had doubts about portraying a character with short-term memory loss in a commercial film and a villainous role, but both projects were successful, boosting his confidence.

At 49, Suriya took another leap by getting into top physical shape for Kanguva, building a six-pack body for the demanding role. He expressed confidence in the movie's universal appeal, comparing it to Tamil cinema's answer to Baahubali, KGF, and RRR.

Suriya also revealed a personal anecdote, sharing that he became an actor to help repay a loan his mother had taken. Though his initial ambition was to enter the textile business, the love he received from audiences led him to take acting seriously, dedicating himself fully to the craft.

A potential sequel to Kanguva is already in the works, contingent on the film's success at the box office.
