While the initials "NTR" may evoke thoughts of Jr NTR among younger generations, Sr NTR remains the definitive icon for many. His powerful performances in mythological dramas made him a household name in India, especially in the 1960s and 70s.
NTR first embodied Lord Rama in the 1963 blockbuster Lava Kusa, a role he reprised in several films. However, his portrayal of Ravana in the 1958 film Bhookailas was less successful. It was his performance as the demon king in the 1961 classic Seetharama Kalyanam that became iconic and defined his mastery in mythological roles. NTR's versatility extended to playing Lord Krishna in 17 films, further cementing his cinematic legacy.
His commanding presence and deep connection with the audience led to such admiration that temples were built in his honor. NTR's contributions to the mythological genre shaped Telugu cinema, and his legacy continues to influence the industry today.
