An Odisha-based couple employed in an IT firm near Bengaluru was arrested on Tuesday for the alleged murder of a 15-year-old girl who was caring for their young son. Authorities reported that the victim, identified as Sumaina from Rajasthan, had been fatally injured after an altercation on September 27. Her body was later discovered in a suitcase discarded under a bridge in Salem district.

The accused, Aswin Patil, 37, and her husband, Abinesh Sahu, 41, reportedly attacked Sumaina with a rolling pin after she ate food intended for their five-year-old child. Reportedly, according to DSP S Raja of the Sankari sub-division, Sumaina suffered severe head injuries and was not provided medical treatment. She succumbed to her injuries the following day.

In a panic, the couple allegedly placed Sumaina’s body in a suitcase and transported it in their car to Sankari, abandoning it under a bridge at Vaikuntum on the night of September 28. Locals discovered the suitcase and alerted the police, who found the girl’s body inside.

An investigation led to the couple through CCTV footage and a connection to the recently purchased suitcase. After identifying them as IT employees in Banganapalli, police tracked the couple’s movements and arrested them in Odisha.

Following their appearance in court, the accused were remanded to judicial custody in Salem. Sumaina’s parents in Jaipur have been informed of the tragic incident.
