Due to surge in demand, ChatGPT suspends new sign ups

OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman shared on X platform

Approximately 100 million people utilize its services weekly

OpenAI has temporarily suspended the acceptance of new users for its paid ChatGPT Plus service due to an overwhelming surge in demand, as revealed by Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman on the X platform.

Altman explained, “We are pausing new ChatGPT Plus sign-ups for a bit…the surge in usage post dev day has exceeded our capacity, and we want to ensure everyone has a great experience.”

During its conference, the AI startup disclosed that approximately 100 million people utilize its services weekly, with over 90% of Fortune 500 businesses constructing tools on OpenAI’s platform.

Earlier this month, OpenAI introduced GPT-4 Turbo, a robust language model, at its inaugural developer conference in San Francisco. This upgraded version surpasses its predecessor, GPT-4, which was announced in March of the same year.

OpenAI is empowering ChatGPT users to create tailored bots for specific tasks and has reduced costs for developers utilizing more potent models, as stated by the artificial intelligence lab.

Altman has initiated a beta program for developers to fine-tune GPT-4 models, and OpenAI launched its Custom Models program, providing a dedicated team of researchers to train customized GPT-4 models for developers.

The company is set to unveil the GPT Store later this month, where users can share their GPTs—OpenAI’s agents enabling ChatGPT to perform tasks like booking flights—and earn money based on user engagement.
