In a strong endorsement of the government’s defence policy, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for transforming India’s military capabilities and strategic posture since 2014. Addressing the nation in the context of Operation Sindhoor, Singh praised the Indian Armed Forces for their precision and preparedness, particularly in operations targeting hostile elements across the border.

The Defence Minister underscored that a pivotal shift in India’s defence strategy occurred after the Modi-led government assumed power. A key component of this transformation has been the focused push on bolstering the domestic defence production sector. Singh indicated that the Prime Minister had introduced a critical strategic principle aimed at achieving ‘Defence Sovereignty’—an approach centred on reducing reliance on foreign arms imports and enhancing self-reliance through indigenous manufacturing.
Since 2014, the government has launched several initiatives to strengthen defence infrastructure, encourage private sector participation, and promote innovation in military technology. This broader vision is seen as integral not only to national security but also to India’s standing as a regional power.
Operation Sindhoor is being viewed as a demonstration of the effectiveness of these reforms, reflecting a more assertive and self-reliant defence doctrine. The Defence Minister’s remarks reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernising the armed forces while ensuring that India's defence policy remains rooted in strategic autonomy and national interest.
