An orange alert has been issued for Bengaluru, prompting the closure of schools across the city on Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) raised the alert due to the continuous heavy rains that have lashed the city since Tuesday morning. The advisory has urged companies to allow employees to work from home to avoid the worsening traffic and waterlogged roads.

The government, in its order, confirmed that schools and anganwadi centers across Bengaluru district will remain shut for the day. However, colleges, including degree, post-graduation, diploma institutions, and ITIs, will stay open with precautions in place. College principals have been directed to follow safety guidelines to ensure students’ well-being during the rains.
With schools closed, many institutions have shifted to online classes for higher grades, ensuring continuity in education. For younger students, assignments have been given as a form of home-based learning.
Bengaluru has been facing severe waterlogging and traffic jams, with the downpour disrupting daily life in several areas. The situation has led to numerous calls for assistance from the city’s residents, as roads and underpasses remain inundated.
The orange alert comes ahead of a state holiday on Thursday, October 17, in observance of Valmiki Jayanti. The holiday is expected to give some respite as residents hope for improved weather conditions.
