On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, a significant national event in India, a collaborative effort involving volunteers and BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) workers unfolded as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in Bengaluru.
This initiative was a local manifestation of the nationwide Swachhta Hi Sewa Abhiyaan, bringing together an impressive cohort of over 2,000 participants.
Among these participants were Army personnel, their families, children, NCC students, BBMP personnel, and conservancy staff.
The primary focus of this campaign was to promote a “Garbage Free India.”
Volunteers engaged in a comprehensive cleanup operation encompassing the areas surrounding Ulsoor lake, addressing dumpsites, and executing deweeding and lake bank restoration activities.
Beyond the physical cleaning efforts, the campaign also aimed to cultivate awareness among the local community regarding the significance of cleanliness and sanitation.
This event underscored the importance of community engagement and active citizen participation in national initiatives. Major General Ravi Murugan, the General Commanding Officer (GOC) of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area, lauded the dedicated efforts of the volunteers.
He emphasized the critical role individuals play in maintaining public spaces and urged more people to join the movement towards a cleaner and healthier environment.
