Karnataka’s ambitious e-Khata drive, aimed at streamlining property records and enhancing transparency in ownership, has already brought over 5.34 lakh properties under its digital umbrella. The initiative, led by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, seeks to benefit around 25 lakh properties in total, with a focus on eliminating manual processes and reducing corruption in property documentation.

Starting July 1, the campaign is expanding its reach by taking digitisation services directly to citizens’ doorsteps. The programme is currently active across all wards under the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), where officials are scanning, verifying, and updating property details as part of a comprehensive record overhaul.
The drive is designed to assign a unique identification number to every property, similar to how Aadhaar works for individuals. This will help establish a clear and tamper-proof digital record of ownership for properties within the BBMP limits.
To support this, ward-level e-Khata melas are being organised throughout Bengaluru during the month of July. These events aim to make the process citizen-friendly, with trained staff assisting residents in updating or obtaining their property records digitally.
The state government views this initiative as a significant step toward making property management more transparent, accessible, and corruption-free, thereby improving ease of ownership and civic engagement in urban Karnataka.
