Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to chair four high-level meetings today, which have gained significant importance in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. The meetings include a session with the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) , followed by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, and the Union Cabinet meeting.
Among these, the CCPA meeting is seen as especially crucial. Often referred to as the 'Super Cabinet', this committee last convened after the 2019 Pulwama attack. After the Pahalgam attack, the committee assessed the national security situation and recommended key non-military measures such as suspending the Indus Water Treaty, shutting the Attari border, and revoking visas. A similar airstrike on terror camps in Balakot followed the 2019 meeting, highlighting the CCPA’s significance in times of crisis.
The CCPA primarily examines major political and economic issues and is instrumental in decision-making during critical situations. It also addresses Centre-State relations, coordinates politically sensitive inter-ministerial policies, and reviews foreign affairs with political implications.
Chaired by the Prime Minister, the CCPA includes key ministers such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, JP Nadda, and others, making it a powerful decision-making body in the Indian government.
