A family vacation to Kashmir turned tragic for 41-year-old Bharat Bhushan, a software engineer from Mathikere, Bengaluru, who was killed in a terrorist attack. Bhushan, who lived in Sundarnagar, Jalahalli, was visiting Kashmir with his wife Sujata and their 3-year-old son. Both Sujata and the child escaped unhurt. However, Bharat succumbed to injuries during the attack. The family had gone to the valley seeking peace and leisure — a trip that ended in unspeakable tragedy.

His mother, critically ill and on oxygen support, has yet to be informed of her son's death. The devastating news was initially learned through television broadcasts, shocking the extended family and friends. Bhushan’s brother Pritam has rushed to Kashmir to assist with the formalities, and the bodies are expected to be brought back to Karnataka later today.

Retired professor Nagaraj, a close family friend, expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the attack. Remembering Bharat as a cheerful, promising individual, he called the incident a grievous blow. "He was one of our own. A life full of potential has been cut short," Nagaraj said, voicing anger over increasing threats to civilian safety in Kashmir.

Bhushan also ran a diagnostic center and was known for his community involvement.
